In 2000, in an effort to help build community and raise funds for Eastbrook Academy, a special event was proposed by a group of parents whose kids attended the academy. This event was to be held in the basement of the school. It was a casual event where hors d’oeuvres and desserts were served. There was both a silent and live auction. The first auction raised approximately $10,000. This event continued for 5 years! When the totals seemed to plateau, it became clear something needed to change in order to take this event to the next level. In 2006, parent, Kevin Eggert, a local firefighter, went to the then Head of School, Julie Loomis and asked if she would support the idea of the auction including a sit down dinner. Julie asked, “Who would prepare such a meal?” Kevin, having experience cooking for his peers at the firehouse, graciously offered! That year the action brought in $25,000! For the next nine years, Kevin prepared the meal and the auction grew to fill the gymnasium. In 2015, Carolyn Muckelberg proposed moving the event to an off-site location and the auction moved to the Anchorage. That year the fundraising totals jumped again and earned $45,000. Seeing the move as a positive endeavor, the next year the event took place at the beautiful Wisconsin Club and increased the total raised to $70,000. The Annual Gala continues to raise significant funds, allowing students opportunities not otherwise available.
